Humane Society

The Brown County Humane Society (BCHS) (INDIANA) is a private, volunteer-supported nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting animal welfare. The BCHS is an open-admission shelter that accepts all of Brown County’s stray and homeless cats and dogs. We are nationally recognized for our outstanding Save Rate of 95+%, compared to a national average of 50%.

The BCHS S.P.O.T. (Serving Pets Outreach Team) program provides low-cost spay/neuter assistance to Brown County residents to reduce the number of unwanted animals in the community.  Since the inception of the S.P.O.T. program in 2010, the program has reduced the intake into the shelter by 60%.  In addition, this program provides mentoring to surrounding communities to help them develop a S.P.O.T. like program.

With a record of compassion and success, the Brown County Humane Society embodies the power of a positive community for the animals and people it serves!

In 2016, the Tony’s Crew Award was for $5,000.

Located in Tony’s home state of Indiana, BCHS’s motto is “Little Shelter – Big Results”. Our 2015 grant of $7,000 was used for two programs – a sponsorship for the annual Dawg Gone Walk & Fiesta and as a Challenge Gift for the Phone-a-thon Campaign. Our staff & volunteers work tirelessly to maintain a Save Rate of 95+% which has been our standard of excellence for the past 5 years.

In 2014, the TSF Grant Accelerator Award of $5,000 was used for the Heart Full of Love program.
